Ask Dr. Weiss: what, exactly, is a Temporomandibular Disorder?

At Weiss Orthodontics, we know thousands of folks in Memphis suffer from chronic facial and neck pain, as well as recurrent headaches. In some cases the pain is due to Temporomandibular Disorder, or TMD.

Your temporomandibular joints, or jaw joints, connect your lower jawbone to your skull. These joints get quite a lot of use throughout the day as you speak, chew, swallow and yawn. Pain in and around these joints are very unpleasant and may even restrict movement.

As the school year comes to a close for a lot of Dr. Weiss' patients, the days get longer and the temperatures climb here in Memphis, there’s no better way to beat the heat than jump into a pool and cool off. For a lot of our patients and their families, summer brings a chance to get away from it all and escape every-day life, if only for a week or two. For others, it means a season of relaxation and relief from homework and other duties.
